A quarter century of riding
Six great rides over two days
The Challenge of the Centuries is a 27 year old annual event held on the weekend before Memorial Day. Rides of 35, 100K and 100 miles are held on Saturday and Sunday with riders leaving at 8 am each day from the Hartwell YMCA. Sponsored by the Hartwell Kiwanis Club the ride has annually 350 to 400 riders and each year has numerous riders who are repeat riders.
On Saturday
On Saturday the ride heads east with all three rides crossing the massive Hartwell Lake dam. Bikes are only permitted to cross the dam, about 2 miles, this one time each year. Each ride goes into South Carolina on gentle terrain of the Piedmont of North East Georgia. The rides on Saturday are: Smith-McGee Sojourn 39.7 miles, Bull Snort Surprise 65.3 miles, and Calhoun Falls Century 99.6 miles
On Sunday
On Sunday the ride heads west and north and is more challenging for the long rides. On Sunday you can do: Ridge View Venture 31.2 miles Pleasant Hill Ride 59.3 miles Assault on Dick’s Hill 98.9 miles
